ODBC Plug-in for the OPC Router

ODBC – Open Database Connectivity

The ODBC interface has been available very early on for successfully establishing connections with various databases. The ODBC standard allows immediate abstraction of the databank system – as well as addressing the database in a generalized manner. In connection with the OPC Router, access to smaller databases can be established easily. To make the connection work, the appropriate ODBC driver for the respective database needs to be installed. For well-known databases, native access ist often more appropriate because of its higher functional scope and its better performance.

Bringing Industry 4.0 to life with ODBC

  • Achieving more with coupled systems:
Combining ODBC databases via the OPC Router has several advantages: Important data can be distributed and recorded between various systems, thus creating seamless data streams. Isolated applications or stand-alone systems can be connected via the OPC Router, including the use of the ODBC Plug-in, which is a cost-efficient solution for connecting older systems to high-end industry 4.0 systems. This is good news for companies who do not want to invest in complete replacement of older systems, for the time being.
  • Industry 4.0 for OBDC:
Connecting ODBC databases with a wide array of systems opens up many new data usages and data development scopes, bridging current data gaps in order to facilitate industry 4.0 in your industrial plant or enterprise.
  • About OPC Router:
The OPC Router offers a visual network configuration interface for successful cross-linking of your systems. A high variety of Plug-ins turns the OPC Router into a powerful data hub for industrial applications.

Transfer-Objects

The transfer object of the ODBC Plug-in allows access to Tables and Views of the ODBC database.

Tables

For tables the following actions are available:  Select, Update, Insert and Delete. Once the datasets have been processed, they can be marked by the OPC Router as transferred.

Views

To access views a Select query is necessary.

Trigger

The ODBC Plug-in does not have trigger functions of its own but uses the standard trigger functions of the OPC Router instead.

Browsing

The ODBC Plug-in can browse all available Tables and Views of the connected ODBC database.

Tables and Views

All available tables and views that are accessible to the user can be read out of the ODBC database system. When accessed, columns and types can be determined and made available for selection.
